SCREENPLAYS ANYONE? Can we make original movies nowadays?

It seems like getting a script in the hands of Hollywood "movers and shakers" is a daunting task. Trust me I know...I've been trying since 2007!

And after I saw films like Nick Cannon's The Underclassman...(let me make myself clear) by "saw" I did not mean, watch! And I think we all know why, I felt that I had a sure shot to get my script made into a movie.

Well...the road has been a little bumpy, but I'm getting closer. Let's keep our fingers crossed! MOVIES ARE POWERFUL TOOLS OR ENTERTAINMENT...LET'S NOT WASTE IT!

DISTRICT 9-- has come along and injected into cinema what different should look like. Grant it, being different and not having A list actors, doesn't always generate HUGE opening weekend numbers but as long as the quality is there...the message and impact will be made! (i.e. Cloverfield)

I look forward to more original stories coming to Hollywood! Studio execs understand the importance of fan bases. That is why everyone's favorite, cartoon, superhero, book, etc are getting made into movies. But we are steering too far in that direction. Because they know the formula is simple: take familar material + hope the fan base supports it in theaters/dvd = BOX OFFICE BLOWOUT! A-LIST actors are paid sooo well because they generate or have their own the fan base.

But let's give all the little guys a shot! I have a big-budget blockbuster mind, so I shouldn't have to be forced to make my script into an Independent Film just to be seen.

BTW...I might watch The Underclassman.( on HBO) Because as I always say...every movie deserves a chance. Just not my money!

What does Will Smith have to do to win an Oscar?

I am a huge Will Smith fan! HUUUGE!!! I have seen everything he's done. I have a growing collection of his movies, minus Six Degrees of Separation and Made In America! (Those are personal choices of mine...lol) Both times he was nominated for an Oscar...I watched with the same intensity of an ultimate sports fan watching the big championship game! Cheering at the screen, when his name was announced (as nominee), clapping/excited when I saw his performance (the film clip), completely silent at the height of the big moment (as the envelop was opened), and OUTRAGED/disappointed when all was lost (his name wasn't called)!

TWO TIMES this has happened to me! And both times, the first in 2001 (losing to Denzel Washington-Training Day), the second in 2007 (losing to Forest Whitaker-The Last King of Scotland), I've just sucked it up and said, like any dedicated sports fan, "we'll get'em next time." But then it dawned on me...what more does Will have to do in order to win?! Don't get me wrong, Denzel and Forest are fine actors...wait GREAT ACTORS, but the years they beat him out, I don't know if the were the "better men." I mean in 2001, Training Day vs. Ali...ALI?!! In 2007, The Last King of Scotland vs. The Pursuit of Happyness? Now the Academy spoke loud and clear, but I just can't figure out what else they are looking for. (THAT TOPIC FOR ANOTHER TIME.)

THE GAME PLAN:
It's time for Will Smith to play a different kind of role, something his never done before. Maybe a bad guy, but if he goes that route, the character should be one ruthless s.o.b!

THE KEY:
He to America, to the world, has a clean image...almost too clean though! The kind of image that eventhough he does a great job in his performances, because of his charm and wit, we can't help but see WILL SMITH in all his characters! The key to that Oscar is for you/me/us as the viewer to "lose" just for a second who the actor is on screen and only see the character. (best example Jamie Foxx-Ray)

The reason we were nominated twice, is because we got close to this twice! The Ali and Chris Gardener characters were almost big enough to overshadow the man they call BIG WILL! I think he is close or is getting closer to acheiving this but only time will tell. I like the direction he was going in Seven Pounds, yet after I saw the film, I didn't see Oscar. But it's coming...oh yeah, it's coming!

What do you think? What will it take?

G.I. Joe suprised me.

I'm not saying it was good, I'm not saying it was bad, but it was entertaining. I do think however if the movie stayed the same and the name was something different like "SUPER SOLIDERS" then it would have been a flop!

Actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who played HEAVY DUTY, really seemed to be the only character in the movie that "took you back" to the old days of Joe. His voice, his mystique, all were very G.I. JOE cartoon-like. His "YO JOE!" at the end of the film made you want to follow him in unison!

But I am a movie lover, not a hater!

I honestly don't know what to think about this movie. I am neither a follower nor a fan, but I feel it's worth the entertainment value. We will see what I think after tonight! IF YOU'VE SEEN IT...TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK

G.I. JOE or G.I. NOOOOOOOO!

SMH @ THIS TRAILER

I don't know what I think about this trailer! Oh wait a minute...yes I do, I think they have totally missed it! The essence of G.I. Joe that is! Now I'm an 80's baby so I know a little thing or two about the cartoon. And like all 80's babies, we greatly await the remake of our favorite cartoon, show, or movie!

What we look for however, is the same look and feel! Based on the trailer, we are watching, prepare for a X-MEN meets The Fantastic Four meets The Matrix. Now just to be fair, I will say, that it is important sometimes to revamp certain franchises to fit with the times...but what really needs to changed about "the REAL AMERICAN HERO!"

Especially since it's orginally a tale about a covert military team i.e Navy Seals, Green Berets perhaps. I hope the movie is not a flop and proves me wrong...because at the end of the day, I am a movie lover not a hater!

What do you think?

RIGHT NOW I'M WATCHING: IRON MAN

Man what a day to remember! I took a long trip, was held captive, then miraciously freed.

So it's only fitting that right now, I'm watching probably the GREATEST made in the last 2 years...IRON MAN!

The story of a billionaire arms dealer, who's captured, forced to make a super weapon but instead creates a supersuit to free himself and combat the world of terrorist. (Not exactly my day, but close. Haha.)

This movie was done right from start to finish! Never, can I remember a time that I've watched a film and simply enjoyed every aspect of it! Robert Downey Jr. is excellent as Tony Stark. Who would've thought that this 80's star and troubled bad boy could have resurrected his career like he has.

If you were not a Marvel, Iron Man, or Robert Downey Jr. fan before, after you watch this one film, don't worry you will be! Terrance Howard does a great job as COL. Rhodes however he will not be reprising his role in the upcoming Iron Man 2. (SMH @ that one!)

NEW TRAILER

I just saw the trailer to the new TRON LEGACY (2011) movie and I must say...it's AWESOME! To see the ever iconic light cycle scenes and a shot of Jeff Bridges, who played in the original TRON (1982), it's enough to have me hooked already!

And not to mention...with the vast advancements in technology since 1982, this version should be right at home in 2011. Tell me what you think about it. View trailer here:
